Consumer - Developing Countries
Wireless communication is not truly wireless as users are tethered to power grids to charge their mobile phone batteries. This is a particular problem for 1.6 billion people in developing countries without access to electricity. By generating electricity from everyday movements of individuals, our bionic energy harvesting technology provides a cost-effective and reliable solution to this power problem. The technology enables individuals that could not use portable electronics in the past because of a lack of power access to now purchase and use products such as mobile phones and laptop computers. For example, the telecommunication sector faces a significant hurdle in extending services to the more than 1 billion people currently living outside the reach of telecommunications in the developing world. This hurdle is not a telecom challenge but an energy challenge and Bionic Power believes it has found the solution to one of the biggest problems facing the telecommunications sector in developing countries. Among other applications, the technology can be used to power things such as headlamps for harvesting crops at night and LED lights in homes.
